Which Works Best: Buying or Leasing?

When you are on the hunt for a new car there is plenty of options you must consider. Aside from the major decisions that must make like what type of car, your budget and what you want to do with your car, you must decide how you want to pay for your car? There are two options, financing (buying) or leasing, and you must decide which one works best for you.

Buying a Car

  1. New Subaru Outback in Auburn, CA When you buy a car you are the owner and can keep it for as long or for as short as you want.
  2. Because you own the vehicle you can drive as much and as far as you want without any monetary penalties.
  3. When you buy a vehicle you may have to pay more on a monthly basis, but as the end of the loan you will have built credit that will help you purchase your next vehicle, plus you can sell that car to help pay for your next car.
  4. If you want to personalize the car with an upgraded sound system, new seats, or improvements to the powertrain/drivetrain, you are free too because you are not expected to return the vehicle at all.

Leasing a Car

  1. Sadly you don't own the car so you are expected to turn the car in at the end of the lease agreement which is usually 2-4 years. But, if you fall in love with this car you can purchase it at the end of the lease!
  2. Your monthly payments are almost always going to be less than a loan payment. This is a great option for someone who is looking to have a new car but have to abide by a strict budget.
  3. You may not be able to drive as much or as far as you want in a lease, but most of the maintenance that will be done will be covered by your warranty. Plus, you most likely won't be on the hook for any of the costly repairs like new brakes, timing belt/chain, or transmission.
  4. Because you aren't tied to this car for more than just a few years you get the chance to get a new car at the end of your lease and always enjoy the latest technology.
